The Carolina Heat, an Alamance County-based semi-professional football
team will try to knock off a giant in the Mason-Dixon League. The
Heat’s second-round playoff assignment is a road game against the West
Depford (N.J.) Broncos, the league’s defending champion. The Broncos are
undefeated the past two years, Heat coach Earl Rose said. “They don’t
want to play us,” Rose said, saying the Heat has changed some of its
formations since earlier in the season. The fifth-seed Heat (7-3-1)
advanced with a 16-3 victory Saturday night against the fourth-seeded
Fayetteville Cardinals at Fayetteville’s Reed Ross Field. It was
Fayetteville’s first home loss of the season. The Heat scored on Willie
Harris’ 28-yard touchdown run and Demetri Morrison’s 20-yard reception
from Bryan Pallone. Kevin Muldrow kicked a 38-yard field goal. Pallone
completed 10 of 23 passes for 124 yards. Muldrow also caught five passes
for 58 yards. Defensively, Tim Rissel made 13 tackles, including three
sacks, and Antonio Stevenson had 12 tackles with 3˝ sacks. Eric Dalton
added six tackles and an interception.
